I am scientist

We have been learning to think like scientists this term. Learning all about plants has helped us to become scientists. We have been asking lots of questions and trying to answer them. We found out that plants breathe and drink water. We found the best way to germinate a seed – seeds need water to germinate but the plant needs water, soil and sun to grow well.
WALT: investigate
         Ask questions
Make predictions (think about what is going to happen)
         Observe and record what happens
Use what we have observed to make conclusions
WALT share our ideas

Task
Show my science learning using play dough, drawing and labelling what we can see, classifying the plants and completing the plant life cycle activity.

Success Criteria:
I can ask questions
I think about what might happen
I look closely (observe)
I share my ideas
"My plant is green"

I can see roots and shoots and leaves.

Reflection

I really like: growing the plants.

I think I need to practice: remembering to water my plants

Something that really helped me was: touching the plants

Kerri thinks
You love to share your ideas during our science learning. Like a scientist you look very closely and try to draw what you can see. I am pleased that growing and touching the plants and bits of plants really helped you!

Nga Tae

We started by singing the colours song on our blog
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLu-PEA42FQ&feature=youtu.be
Then in buddy time we shared the big book T-shirts. We thought we could use this book as inspiration for our learning so we made collage T-shirts. Rosie taught us how to say “This is my blue T-shirt” in Te Reo.

Success Criteria
ü  For the collage:
o   Small pieces of paper, the same colour
o   The white paper is all covered
o   Flappy edges glued down
ü  We know at least 4 colours in Te Reo
ü  We can say the colours correctly

How I am going

I helped create the t-shirt collage

1 know the colours of the t-shirts in Te Reo

1 can say the words correctly

Reflection

I really like: singing the colour

I think I need to practice: my sounds so I can say the words

Something that really helped me was: singing lots

My Reading

,Lo WALT: look at the picture to help us work out the word.

Task
Create a ‘movenote’ or a 'show me' on the ipad to share your learning. Take a photo of the book you are reading and record yourself reading. Remember to show your learning, check the success criteria… Have you reached your goal?

Success Criteria:
  • I look at the picture to help me.
  • I point at every word as I read it.
  • I have included a picture of the book I am reading.
  • I read in a clear voice.

Reflection

I really like: reading books about cars, trains and taxi's.

I think I need to practice: pointing to every word when I'm reading.

Something that really helped me was: reading to lots of different people like Kerri, Julie, Deb, David and James.

Kerri thinks
Daniel, you are working so hard on your reading and I can see you love reading to loads of different people. I am pleased that is helping your learning. You look at the picture to help you work out tricky new words and you are getting so much better at point at each word as you read. Remember to keep your finger under the word rather than on the word so you can see the words as you read.

Showing Excellence

We are learning all about Panekiretanga (excellence) as our value this term. We can show excellence in our learning and in our play. We can show excellence at school and at home... we can show excellence anywhere!

We think excellence is:
  • Giving it your your best shot and never giving up
  • If you don’t succeed, try and try again
  • Keep on practising
  • Do some thinking, then ask for help when you don’t know what to do
  • We all have our own excellence, and it can be different for different things
  • We need to encourage others – we show excellence in the way we talk.
  • We use our manners and share, including other people in our games – we show excellence in our play
WALT: show Panekiretanga (excellence) in our learning.

Task
Show excellence in the classroom:

  1. Using the discovery equipment explore, experiment and try something new.
  2. We love to try all the discovery activities and work
    together to play collaboratively.
  3. During buddy time work as a team to complete the T-shirt collage with no gaps, thumb size pieces of paper.
High 5 and Ci7cus learning together
  4. Use your i-time card and follow during maths. Give every activity your best shot and don't give up!
We practise our learning with the teacher and by ourselves.
We never give up!
Remember to show excellence by encouraging and including others and trying your very best.

Success Criteria:
  • I tried my very best
  • I kept on practising even when it was tricky
  • I encouraged others (excellence in my talk)
  • I used my manners, shared and I included other people in my games (excellence in my play)

Reflection

I really like: being kind to my friends.

I think I need to practice: sharing with my friends and letting my friends play with me.

Something that really helped me was: my friends help me remember to be kind because they are kind to me.

Kerri thinks
Excellence is all about trying your best and never giving up, even when the learning is really tricky!! You are getting so much better at keeping on going. I love how proud of yourself you are when you have finished something really tricky. Remember, you can show excellence in your play too. You do use kind words but you need to remember to share your friends!
